September 2007:: Health Bulletin Massage Therapy:
Massage Therapy is an effective approach to pain management and rehabilitation. RMTs are effective in treating and providing relief for a wide range of conditions such as migraine headaches, tendonitis, arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, as well as many other common conditions. In BC, over 75% of medical physicians regularly refer their patients to a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) and they make these referrals because massage therapy is both accessible and effective in the treatment of their patients conditions. Today, RMT use a blend of modern science and ancient philosophies, utilizing specific techniques and modalities to treat many conditions. Massage Therapy is also remarkably effective when used a s aprt of a preventative care program. Some examples of general wellness care include pre or post natal care (pregnancy), infant massage, stress management and injury prevention. Massage Therapy is often covered in extended medical or benefits plan at work and patients may or may not need a doctors referral to have their massage therapy covered. (Its best to check with your plan administrator) Our RMTs are: » Visit our RMT profiles
Low Back Pain or Headaches?![]() When you have low back pain or headaches, have you ever wondered if you should see a chiropractor OR a massage therapist? What we recommend is because the nature of the problem can often be more than what the patient feels (for example a pulled muscle may be a irritated facet joint), the pain needs to be assessed and diagnosed accurately. The Chiropractor is trained in diagnosis and will diagnose the condition (ie. muscle, tendon, ligament or joint etc. ) and then make the referral to massage therapy (or other discipline) Because the Chiropractors and Massage Therapists work closely together in our centre, nothing will go undetected or treated.
